Chat With a YouTube Transcript — Q&A Over Any Video

Paste any YouTube URL, ask questions, and get answers grounded in the video's transcript. A running session you can pick up again — no Data API key, no watermark.

You have a 45-minute video and one specific question. Re-watching to find the answer is slow; re-reading a 6,000-line transcript is slower. A chat with a transcript reads the whole video and answers directly — and it tells you when the answer is not in the video, so you know when to trust it.

What you get

  • Q&A over one video — ask as many questions as you want about the video you loaded.
  • Grounded answers — the model answers only from the transcript. If the video doesn’t cover your question, it says so instead of guessing.
  • Real details — names, numbers, dates, product names, and short quotes are kept from the transcript, so the answer is specific, not vague.
  • A running session — the conversation is stored per video, so you can come back and keep asking.
  • Same language as the video — ask in the transcript’s language; the answers follow it.
  • Works without captions — videos with no caption track are transcribed with AI speech recognition first.

How it works

  1. Extract a video with the tool (or paste its URL and press Extract). The transcript loads.
  2. In the Chat with the transcript panel, type a question.
  3. A large language model reads the full transcript and answers — grounded in what the video actually says.
  4. Keep asking. The conversation is stored, so you can resume it.

Why grounded, not general-knowledge, answers?

A general chat model will happily answer anything — but for a specific video you want the answer to be about that video, not a plausible-sounding guess. Grounding the model to the transcript and telling it to say “not mentioned” when the video doesn’t cover a topic is what makes the Q&A trustworthy: you can tell when an answer is really in the video and when it is a gap.

What people use transcript chat for

  • Quick answers — “What’s the main point?” or “What did they say about pricing?”
  • Fact-checking — confirm a number, name, or claim that was in the video.
  • Study & revision — quiz yourself by asking the model to explain a concept from the lecture.
  • Research & quoting — pull the exact lines that support a claim, then cite them.

Transcripts, chat, and more — same tool

Chat is one feature of the tool. The same URL also gets you the full transcript with timestamps, an AI summary, a study quiz, flashcards, a mind map, a study guide, SRT/VTT subtitle downloads, translation into 100+ languages, and an REST API + MCP server if you want grounded Q&A in your own pipeline.
